Becoming a christian

I want to know more about God… Where do I begin?

Have you ever wondered about, or felt confused about, the purpose of your life?  What ways have you tried to discover your life’s purpose that haven’t worked?  Why do you think people try to discover their life’s purpose without turning to God, their creator?

1. God’s purpose: Peace and life through Jesus Christ

“I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”

(John 10:10)

2. Our problem: Separation from God

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard”

(Romans 3:23)

Many people today think a Christian is someone who tries to live a good life, who accepts there is a God, or goes to church.  In reality, none of these by themselves makes a person a Christian.  God created us with a free will, however we have a problem; our sin separates us from God making us spiritually empty.

3. Our response: To receive Christ

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

(Romans 10:9)

God loves us so much, he sent his son Jesus to this planet over 2000 years ago.  Jesus became a man, as human as you and me, yet lived faithfully – the way we were meant to, blameless before God.  Jesus came to provide the single means of divine pardon; by his innocent death on the cross in our place, he was taking the punishment we deserve for ignoring God.  His resurrection is God’s stamp of approval to this.

How to Receive Christ

1. Tell Him you need Him

Every person was created to know God’s presence in their life. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, nobody comes to the Father, but through Me.” (John 14:6). You need to receive Christ in order to realise God’s purpose and power in your life.

2. Be willing to change

Repentance is when you turn from a life of sin and regret to a life of freedom and hope in God.

3. Believe that Jesus Christ is your Saviour

Jesus Christ died for you on the cross so you may live eternally, free from sin. His sacrifice also meant you can receive healing in your body. He rose from the grave so you can receive eternal life, free from the power of death.

4. Invite Jesus to come into your life

Through prayer, you can invite Jesus into your life and receive Him as your Saviour and Lord.

Salvation Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus,

I come to You today and confess that I need You

Please come into my heart, Jesus

Be my Lord and Saviour

Thank You for giving me a brand new start

Wash me, cleanse me… and forgive me of all my sins

Today, I open my life to You and declare I AM SAVED. Amen.

1. Daily bible readings

The bible is God’s message to you. In it you will find out how to live a successful Christian life. Obey God’s word and your life will be satisfying and powerful.

A great translation of the  bible to start your journey is the New Living Translation, (Tyndale House Foundation. Carol Stream, Illinois 60188. All rights reserved)
